Rules exist because we are incapable of policing ourselves. We are all selfish, egoistic organisms; when the colony grows beyond a manageable size, universal oversight is impossible. Rules function as deterrents to defectors to improve the overall success of the colony. Rules however are determined by rule makers, and, by their inherent definition and title, require and demand authority to govern on behalf of the colony. Rules that are in place may benefit society, only insofar as the individual abiding by those rules agrees to them.

If we consider the elevated intelligence of conscious rule makers, rules lose their original intention when they are created to maintain the status quot or protect the system/control of authority. We no longer are defending the individual.

I understand the necessity to curb the violence and exploitation of drug cartels, but what right does the governing class have over my right to smoke marijuana or take psychedelic drugs? Why do we favor the logical, sober consciousness? Why is spiritual exploration condemned? What are we afraid of? What are they afraid of?
